Oakland ARES/RACES Weekly Net
Thursdays 19:30 local time, on the WB6NDJ David F. Otey Memorial Repeater:
146.88 Mhz, minus offset, PL tone 77.0 hz
Simplex net follows on 147.585, or alternate frequency 146.565, or as announced on the repeater net.
During the net, the 2m repeater is temporarily linked to the 70cm/440 repeater, which is in turn linked to our EchoLink, IRLP and AllStar nodes. The 70cm repeater can be accessed at 442.4 MHz, plus offset, PL tone 77.0 hz.
All licensed amateur radio operators are invited to check in to the weekly on-the-air meeting.
During most nets we ask operators to give their callsign in phonetics, and then when called upon, to check in with their callsign (no phonetics), first name and location. For your location, provide either your Evacuation Zone (from the Genasys Protect map, formerly ZoneHaven), or your Oakland Zip Code, or your city if outside Oakland.
Net Control Operators (NCO):
As part of our ongoing training we encourage and mentor first time net control operators.
Current NCO Assignments are Listed on the Home Page.
Sign up to run the net on the NCO Signups page.
Net Control Scripts (aka Preamble):
Log Sheets (printable):
-
weeklylog.xls (select File > Download)
-
weeklylog.numbers (for Mac & iPad)
Logging - Net control operators can download one of the log files linked above to print and log on paper. We recommend logging on paper your first few times running the net. Once you are comfortable with it, we have an online log (shared spreadsheet) that the net manager can provide access to. Unless instructed otherwise, the net control operator should email the net manager with a log of repeater and simplex check-ins after the conclusion of the net.
Net participants are also encouraged to practice logging callsigns and checkins on paper.
Use of the WB6NDJ David F. Otey Memorial Repeater is courtesy of the Oakland Radio Communications Association (ORCA). The WB6NDJ repeater is an open repeater: no dues are required for normal Amateur Radio use. However, you must be a member to make use of special features.
It is recommended that you download the ARES Field Resources Manual and/or the Alameda County Instant Trainer well in advance of an emergency. Then either print it or save it to disk so it will be quickly available in times of emergency.
